Prof Mills challenges Political Party Leaders

to declare commitment to peace Gomoa Dawurampong (C/R), May 13, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta Mills, Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday challenged other political party executives to openly declare their commitment to a peaceful, transparent, free and fair elections.

He said: "The NDC being the mother of modern day Ghanaian multi-party democracy, would use all constitutional means to protect, defend and promote the tenets of Good Governance and the Rule of Law, as well as the adherence to orderly elections."

Prof. Mills stated this during a seven-hour tour of the Gomoa West Constituency to interact with Chiefs and Opinion Leaders and to explain the principles and objectives of the party and outdoor the new image of the NDC.

Among the entourage of the former Vice President were: Dr Kwesi Botchwey, former Finance Minister, who challenged Prof Mills for the NDC Falgbearship last year; Dr Ahmed Mustapha, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayawaso East; Mr Ato Ahwoi and Kwamena Ahwoi; Dr Tony Aidoo, Former Deputy Minister of Defence and Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe MP for Gomoa West. Others were members of the "Kwesi Botchwey for President Campaign Team," who have now join forces to support and promote Prof Mills. Prof Mills told the electorate that the NDC would conduct this year's election based on issues, devoid of rancour, insults, violence and any anti-democratic tendencies.

He said, "violence, beating of war drums, lies and abuse of the right of the electorate have no place in the NDC campaign strategies. "We are basing our campaign on truth, peace and humane developmental policies to alleviate the plight of the suffering people," adding "bombing, fighting, cheating and politics of deceit would not help Ghana."

He solicited for the support and well wishes of the Chiefs and people to once again lead the nation.

Towns visited included Gomoa Dawurampong, where addressed a mini-rally organized in his honour, Apam, Gomoa Adjumaku, Gomoa Nkransah and Gomoa Enyene.

All the chiefs appealed to Political Parties; Electoral Commission, the Media and other democratic forces to preach and stand for peace during their electioneering campaign.
