Bongo (U/E), May 13, GNA- More than sixty supporters of the Convention People's Party (CPP) in the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Among them are the Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Joseph Ayamga Leo, the constituency youth organizer, Mr. Adongo Nyaaba, and six ward chairmen.

Addressing a news conference at Bongo on Tuesday, Mr. Ayamga declared that they were "joining hands in support of President J.A Kufuor and his parliamentary candidate, Mr. Andrew Awuni to enable us win the coming elections for the NPP government to continue with developments in the country".

He said as former members of the CPP they are now convinced that the party is incapable of winning any elections because of in fighting and poor communication within the party.

Mr. Ayamga urged CPP supporters in the area to give their votes to the NPP and its parliamentary candidate, Mr Awuni in the December general elections.

The Bongo NPP Constituency Organizer, Mr. Sunday Akamelum, on behalf of Mr. Awuni, accepted the former CPP members into their fold, saying that their decision to move camp was a clear testimony of the growing popularity of the NPP.
