DCE commends teachers

Ejisu (Ash), May 10, GNA- Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive, has commended teachers in the district for their hard work and dedication which had helped to improve academic performance in schools in recent times.

He said recent academic performance of school pupils and students in the district in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) were a clear manifestation of the hard work and commitment of the teachers. Mr Afrifa gave the commendation at the 2003 Ejisu-Juaben teachers' awards day celebrations at Ejisu.

He said the assembly had committed substantial amount of its budget to the development and provision of educational infrastructure in the district.

This, he said was evidenced in the construction of classroom blocks, teachers' bungalows and provision of furniture and other teaching and learning materials in schools.

Mr Afrifa commended teachers in the district for embracing the district health insurance scheme and said some of the teachers had started benefiting from the scheme.

Mr Festus Boadi-Soadwa, District Director of Education, said the awards were meant to encourage the teachers to perform better in their chosen carrier.

He appealed to the teachers in the district to remain committed to serve the pupils in the area to enable them to achieve high academic standards.

Mr Isaac Asante of the Ofoase Primary School emerged the overall best teacher in the primary category while Mr Amos Obeng of the Onwi D/A JSS was adjudged JSS teacher award.

They both received 14-inch colour television sets.
