NPP Ashanti Recruits Media Sanitization Squad

By Joseph Osei, Ultimate Radio, Kumasi

The opposition New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti region is constituting a team to monitor media utterances of its communicators and executives.

This, the party says is to prevent the re-occurrence of unhealthy rivalry among presidential hopefuls which cost the party dearly in the run up to the 2012 elections.

Even before the opening of nominations for presidential primaries, flag bearer hopefuls and their sympathizers have begun throwing salvos at each other in the media.

Ashanti regional secretary of the party, Mr. Samuel Pyne told ultimate radio, the party will not allow their opponents to make any political capital out of the situation.

'In 2007, it happened when seventeen people contested the primaries. There was a lot of talk and at the end of it all; the NDC used it against us. In 2010, a similar thing happened and the party has taken a cue from it,' he explained.

He divulged that by the close of day Thursday, names for the team will be out for consideration. He added that the full list will be declared on Monday May 2nd.

He emphasized that the constitution of the party already has sanctions which will guide the squad in punishing persons whose speech and actions are deemed an affront to party unity and cohesion.

Mr. Pyne warned that the party will bring any recognized party activist who dents the party's image in the media, to book. This he said would range from caution to expulsion.
