Mamponteng (Ash), April 28, GNA - Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive, has appealed to all stakeholders in education to play their respective roles effectively to promote quality education in order to accelerate the country's socio-economic development. He said a nation that destroyed its education structures, which were the basic ingredients for speedy socio-economic development, was bound to fail in its developmental efforts.

Alhaji Yeboah made the appeal when he inaugurated the Kwabre District branch of Education For All (EFA) committee members at Mamponteng on Wednesday.

The EFA committee is to complement the efforts of the government toget each school going child to attend and complete at least basic school in the district.

Members of the committee were drawn from the GES, GNAT, PTA and the district assembly.

It is an initiative of the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) to promote the right to good quality and enjoyable basic education by all children as enshrined in the 1992 constitution. Alhaji Yeboah said it was in that direction that the government had made education the cornerstone of its developmental agenda by providing furniture, classroom blocks and other teaching and learning materials to improve education at all levels.

He commended the committee members for their selflessness to work to improve the standard of education in the district and urged parents to take key interest in the education of their wards.

Mr John Kwadwo Owusu, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the GNECC, said the EFA was the outcome of the commitment of members of civil society who formed the coalition to address some of the factors that constrained access to good quality education by all children.

He called on the government to mobilise the political will and commit resources to provide the basic education needs of all children. Mr Thomas Adu Boahene, chairman of the committee, gave the assurance that members would work diligently to improve access to basic education in the district.
