The Hustels And Tustles After National Service

The Hustels And Tustles After National Service
16.05.2014 LISTEN

It is that time of the year, where many national service personnel begin to have sleepless nights. Many spend the whole night thinking about what to do next after their service to the nation.

With few or non-existent jobs available to absorb them immediately after service, many are therefore forced to try many weird ideas because whatever the case, they need to survive after service.

This period is actually the most tormenting in the lives of most graduates, because little financial support is gotten from parents and many even turn to look up to you for support. When there is no means of making money to satisfy these demands then one finds him/herself in hot waters.

In contrast to this headache of service personnel at this time of the year is the joy and excitements that is found on the campuses of many tertiary institutions expressed by students who have just finished writing their last undergraduate exams in the university.

These students go into wild celebrations which usually takes several weeks. For those from KNUST, the celebrations sometimes leads them into their graduation in June. Little do they know the hurdle that lies ahead of them is far bigger than the one they have just crossed.

Searching for a job in Ghana today is the most difficult task one might ever undertake in his/her life time. This is the time that those good brains who do not have any link are left to rot whilst the square pegs are made to occupy round holes because they have links.

The government will have to give a second look to the ban placed on employment. I think something seriously needs to be done the save the life's of many graduates. An enabling environment should also be provided to enable private businesses and NGOs to create jobs to absorb many of these graduates. This will save us the hustles and tussles we go through after school searching for jobs.
