Bolgatanga, April 26, GNA- The Forestry Commission in the Upper East Region has presented 200,000 tree nursery polythene bags estimated at 18 million cedis to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to facilitate its tree nursing programme.

The Regional Manager in charge of HIPC Plantation for the Northern Sector of Ghana, Mr. Moses Wondoh, who presented the polythene bags, said the donation was one of government's HIPC initiatives and expressed the hope that it would complement the needs of the people.

He advised NADMO to make good use of the bags to facilitate a smooth take off of the HIPC plantation exercise. Receiving the bags, the Upper East Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO, Mr. Anderson Anafo-Nabia, thanked the Forestry Commission and the government for the gesture, and assured them that the polythene bags would be used for the intended purpose. He called on the people in the rural areas to plant more trees to serve as wind breaks, and also tasked NADMO volunteers in the region to organize educational campaigns on tree growing in their various communities. 26 April 04
