Techiman Traditional Council to install new paramount chief

Techiman (B/A), April 25, GNA - The chiefs and people of Techiman Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo will install a new paramount chief on Wednesday, May 5 to succeed the late Osabarima Dotobibi Takyia-Ameyaw, who died in September last year.

The new chief, known in private life as Mr Kwaku Osei Mensah, is the branch manager of Ghana Commercial Bank at Twifo Praso in the Central Region.

A statement issued by the planning committee and signed by Nana Asa Akompanin II, said the 42-year-old new chief was nominated by the Queenmother of the Traditional Area, Nana Afia Abrafi and accepted by the three royal gates and the kingmakers.

It said the bank manager, who is the youngest son of the Queenmother would get his stool name on the installation day and would become the 40th occupant of the Bronkyempem Duaduakwa stool.

Vice President Aliu Mahama will be the guest of honour, whilst members of the diplomatic corps and Ministers of State are also expected to attend, the statement added.

The new chief was educated at Sunyani Secondary School and Adisadel College, Cape Coast, from where he proceeded to the University of Cape Coast where he obtained B.Sc. (Hons) in Agriculture and Diploma in Education in 1988.

He was a teaching assistant at the School of Agriculture at the same University from 1988 to 1990 during his national service and became a science tutor at Nkawkaw Secondary School from 1990 to 1993. Nana Osei-Mensah, who joined Ghana Commercial Bank in April 1993, speaks Twi, French and English and is married with three children.
