Donewell Insurance launches road safety campaign raffle

Takoradi, April 21, GNA- Mr. Samuel Oduro, General Manager of the Donewell Insurance Company on Wednesday said the loss of lives and property through road accidents, could not be compensated for by any insurance company.

He said to reverse this trend, drivers must be patient, show respect to passengers, know and understand road signs and be courteous to other road users.

Mr. Oduro said these at the launch of the Western regional Branch of the company's road safety campaign at Takoradi.

The campaign, which has the theme "Drive safely, be courteous and win a bus", is expected to reward hardworking and dedicated taxi and commercial drivers.

He said the project is the social responsibility of the company to all Ghanaians and hoped that it would achieve the expected results. Mr. Philip K. Nkrumah, Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Chief Executive said over speeding, drunk driving, greed and carelessness have been identified as major causes of road accidents on the country's roads. He said within the West African Sub-region, Ghana is ranked among the highest accident probe country and called on drivers to reverse the trend.

Mr Nkrumah appealed to the various station managers to ensure that unqualified persons do not ply within any of their stations while efforts should be made to assist such people to become part of the driving industry.

He urged other insurance company's to devise means to assist in the reduction and elimination of road accidents from the country. Mr. Francis A. Akyeampong, Marketing Manager of the Company said selected lorry stations would have receptacles for the selection process while passengers would be encouraged to select the best driver through his interaction, appearance and general driving comportment.
