Dr Ato Arthur cutting the sod for the construction of the bridge
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, on Tuesday cut a sod for the construction of a footbridge for the people of Dutch Komenda in the area.
Before the construction of the bridge, the residents in the area had great challenges crossing a river before they could go to their farms, a situation which compelled the chief of the area to appeal to the MP to construct a bridge on the river for them.
The GH¢70,000 bridge would be completed within two months, while Dupaul Wood is supporting the MP with 20 pieces of poles towards the construction of the projects.
The chief of the area, Nana Munumkum III thanked the MP for providing the area with a pipe-borne water.
Nana Munumkum hinted that the footbridge would help some of the settlers to relocate to other parts of the river.
He appealed to the government to construct a sea defence for the area since the sea for the past two years had destroyed about 20 houses in the community.
A retired teacher in the area, Mr Kojo Essuon, indicated that the construction of the footbridge would help the people in the community to go about their normal activities.
