ECG To Introduce New Meters
The Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) says it will in the next few months introduce new meters which will enable them effectively monitor the devices to curb tempering by some customers.
According to the ECG, the new meters would also help them arrest the issues of theft in the system to help it further reduce losses.
These issues came up at a workshop organized by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission for the ECG to address the plethora of metering challenges it faces.
In the an interview with Citi News on the sidelines of the workshop, the Managing Director of ECG, Hughton Mensah said his outfit is keen on ensuring that electricity customers have the best quality.
He said 'we have challenges with some of our customers tempering with our meters or bypassing the meters in order not for the meters to record their actual consumption and because of that we are losing revenue.
'What we want to do now is to increase the number of our meters that we can communicate with on what we call Automated Meter Reading - (AMR), where from our offices we can monitor how the meters are functioning on the field.
'With that if there's any tempering that is done, we can detect from our office and deal with them.
