MY POSITION ON GENERAL SECRETARY STILL REMAINS THE SAME

The Office of Dr. Kwame Amoako Tufuor (KAT) wants to state unequivocally that, the media statement and report attributed to him that “he has ditched Yaw Buaben Asamoa and has endorsed Sir John” is wholly untrue and should be treated with the clearest of contempt it deserves.

We would like to state that Dr. KAT is a man of principle, strong-willed, bold and can say it as it is, particularly, when that is the truth. When he stated his support for Yaw Buaben Asamoa, he meant every word of it and the implication was that he was neither supporting Kwabena Agyei Agyepong nor Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John).

He was emphatic that in the last week before Congress, he will come out with his stance for all the contestable positions. Dr. KAT has not made any public pronouncement a week before the Congress on any radio station either local or international.

When I approached Dr. KAT and informed him of his change of support for Yaw Buaben Asamoa, he was extremely angry and questioned the reasons behind this concoction. He concluded that the aim of the news item was to gain cheap popularity to assist a rather weak candidate at his expense.

How can Dr. KAT, who has sacrificed so much to see Nana Addo elected as President of Ghana in 2016, be accused by Sir John and his cohorts that he, Kwabena Agyepong and H.E. J.A. Kufuor are all against a Nana Addo presidency come 2016. This smear campaign is merely meant to tear-up the credibility and strategic reasoning of Dr. KAT, and to make him unpopular in the hearts and minds of delegates for his strategic and principled reasoning of Yaw Buaben Asamoa as the best candidate for General Secretary. But unfortunately, that will not wash.

“The accusation,” Dr KAT said, “is preposterous and weaved with a thinking of a political neophyte. We should all dismiss it with the contempt it deserves.”

We know all the “political gangsters” both home and abroad behind the destruction of him, and in effect Yaw Buaben Asamoa, the most credible candidate in the race for General Secretary. Incidentally, Yaw Buaben will never step down for Sir John, who has lost all credibility amongst the rank and file of the Party, and that come Saturday 12th April 2014, the delegates will decide overwhelmingly for the best candidate, who in my personal view is Yaw Buaben Asamoa.

Dr. Amoako Tufuor still remains a pillar in the NPP and wishes that some of our people would not allow this selfish interest pervading the Party, to drag the name and reputation of the political wizard into the mud.
