Image8 Company Limited, in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, has launched the first edition of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Ghana Awards 2013 in Accra.

It is an innovative event to reward the most imaginative and successful initiative from small and medium sized enterprises, private-public partnerships.

Kwasi Ofori, a Concept Developer for Imagine8, said the SME Ghana Awards was instituted specifically to acknowledge, celebrate and encourage excellence among SMEs in Ghana and offer them the opportunity to gain valuable exposure and a well-deserved recognition for national and global expansion.

He said the event was aimed at propelling SMEs in the country to enhance their global competitiveness through innovative ideas in order to achieve greater global market penetration.

Mr. Ofori said SMEs are increasingly being recognized as productive drivers of economic growth and development, stating that SMEs account for 70 percent of Ghana's GDP.

'For this reason the award has been instituted specifically to acknowledge, celebrate and encourage excellence among SMEs in the country, as well as give them the opportunity to gain valuable exposure and well-deserved recognition for national and global expansion,' he said.

Mr. Ofori said the event would showcase and award the country's best SMEs in the trade, industry and service sectors, adding that the overall winner would receive the 'Best SME of the Year' Award.

Mr. Ofori said 35 outstanding SMEs and individuals would be awarded during the event, stating that it would create an international market synergy for the winners by linking local businesses to international partners for mentorship.
