GNA

Accra, April 14, GNA- The Southern Zone of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), which cover the Volta, part of Eastern, Greater Accra, Central and Western regions distributed 3.9 million males condoms in 2003.

The zone also distributed 12,893 female condoms and made insertions of 1,003 of Norplant during the same period.

This was disclosed by the zonal manager, Mr Emmanuel Obeng at the third Zonal Annual General Meeting of the Association held in Accra under the theme "Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) and Poverty Alleviation-the Challenge for the Youth".

He said during the period, the zone was able to raise over 402 million cedis locally for its activities during the year. Mr Obeng said the major problems of the zone include how to sustain the interest of old volunteers and recruit new ones. In a speech read on her behalf, the Executive Director of the Association, Dr Joana Nerquaye-Tetteh called on PPAG volunteers to concentrate on fund raising activities to support the activities of the Association.

She reminded adult volunteers of PPAG of their responsibility to nurture the youth and build them up for the future. Ms Baaba Brew Fleisher was retained as the Zonal Chairman of the Association and was also elected as the Zonal Female Representative to the General Council (GC) of the Association.
