Ministry of Sports express gratitude to CAF

Accra, April 14, GNA - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has expressed its gratitude and that of the people of Ghana to the President and Executives of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for honouring Ms Adjoa Bayor of Ghana and others who have excelled in the continent's football.

Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu the sector Minister in a letter to the Secretary General of CAF and copied to the GNA Sports on Wednesday said the Ministry wishes to thank CAF sincerely for the honour. The statement said Bayor's selection as the best women's footballer in Africa for the year 2003 will go a long way not only to heighten the interest and participation in women football which is at its prime stage in most of Africa.

It said the honour will also go to empower women for equal opportunity and "provides role models for our youth irrespective of gender".

Mr Baah-Wiredu said, "Already in Ghana, we see the recognition given to sportsmen and sportswomen as a vehicle for providing the requisite leadership for accelerating national development, especially in our collective fight against streetism.
