Ejura (Ash), April 11, GNA-The Government of Ghana with support from the British Government has provided five billion cedis for spot improvement on three road networks in the Ejura-Sekyedumase district.
Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Minister of Defence, who announced this, named mentioned the 21-kilometre Ejura-Domi, the 24.9-kilometre Sekyedumase-Kyekyewere and the 9.3-kilometre Dromankuma-Kyenkyenkura roads. He said the government of Ghana has also voted 343 million cedis from the HIPC fund for the construction of drains at Drobon.
Dr Addo Kufuor was addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of Ejura to raise funds for the development of the town on Saturday. The 67 million cedis realised would be used to assist brilliant but needy students, undertake development projects and to start the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Defence Minister said Government was aware of the delay in the completion of the Kaase-Sunkwa and Santaso-Issaka roads and assured the people that efforts would be made to get the contractors back to complete the projects.
Dr Addo Kufuor announced that the government had provided approximately 300 million cedis for the completion of the X-ray complex at the Ejura District Hospital.
He said the government will also undertake the construction of blocks of six-classrooms at Anyinasu, Frante, the Drobon-Nkrampo Dromankoma. Baffour Osei Tutu Amofa II, Kronkohene of Kumasi who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, said in contemporary times chiefs no longer mobilise their people for war but for fight against poverty, diseases and ignorance.
He, therefore, commended the people for their efforts at promoting education and health in the area and advised leaders to account for their stewardship to enable them win the support of their people.
The Very Reverend Dr Emmanuel Asante, President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, noted that a education was the foundation for development and called on the youth to desist from acts that retarded progress.
