Lack Of Funding For International Conference Center
....South African Company To Take Over The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rented the Accra International Conference Center out to a South African Company, Numetro of Johnic Communications to raise enough funds for maintenance of the facility. The South African Company will use the conference center only at the weekends mainly for the purposes of silver screen movies. The Foreign Ministry that manages the Accra Conference Centre says the facility receives little maintenance from the consolidated fund – this therefore calls for the facility to be rented out to generate some more income. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, AKwasi Osei-Adjei, said about €30,000 is needed to repair the Center's air conditioning system alone. Mr. Osei-Adjei said the contract with the South African company can be renewed every six months – and they've been given the free hand to refurbish the facility but not to do it in a way that will affect the original architectural work.
