Defence Minister Leads Delegation To Rwanada

Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Minister for Defence is leading a four-member government delegation to Kigali, Rwanda at the invitation of the Rwandanese Government to take part in the activities marking the tenth anniversary of the genocide in that country.

Official statement issued in Accra said the delegation would be away for four days.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Defence had stated that its attention has been drawn to a publication in an Accra daily on Monday, April 5, 2004 titled “Scandal rocks sale of GAF aircraft”, in which four skyvan aircrafts were declared unserviceable and sold as scrap to Messrs Pink Aviation Services at $42,000.

The release said GAF command had detected that the procedures for valuation auction and disposal action were not properly adhered to and as such stopped the disposal action.

It said a revaluation, which was carried out arrived at an auction price of $240,000.

It said the Minister was not privy to the transaction until Messrs Pink Aviation Services wrote to him for his intervention on March 16, 2004.

According to the release, the Minister has directed that thorough investigations be conducted into the whole matter and assures the public that it would be informed of the outcome of the investigations
