Minister presents cheque for electrification project

Adams Town (B/A), April 4, GNA - Mr. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development on Friday presented a cheque for five million cedis to people of Adams Town near Nsoatre in the Brong-Ahafo region towards their Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) at a short ceremony at Adams Town. Mr. Adjei-Darko was accompanied by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Nana Kwadwo Seinti and the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah.

Mr. Adjei-Darko said the money was part of his share of Common Fund and was a response to the community's appeal to him about two years ago for help to enable the town be hooked to the national electricity grid. Mr. Obeng Yeboah , Chairman of the local unit committee, who received the cheque thanked the MP for the kind gesture and assured him that people in the area would continue to rally behind President John Agyekum Kufuor and his government.

Mr. Yeboah said a special levy initiated by the community in respect of the electrification project yielded 20 million cedis, which, he added, had been spent to purchase of 40 low-tension poles.

Nana Kwadwo Seinti personally donated one million cedis cash for the purchase of poles.

Earlier, at Nsoatre, Mr. Adjei-Darko cut a tape to commission a 150- million-cedi toilet for the people.

The 10-seater project was financed through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) under the HIPC benefit. Mr. Adjei-Darko added that similar projects had been constructed for the people at Fiapre, Dumasua and Odomase, all which also fall under his constituency.
