The People's National Convention (PNC) says it supports the decision of President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to implement the free Senior High School (SHS) policy announced on Tuesday.

President Mahama in his state of the nation address told Parliament that his administration will implement the policy in the 2015/2016 academic year.

The policy which was the flagship campaign message of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 election was touted as impossible.

But speaking to Citi News, the General Secretary of the PNC, Bernard Monah stated that the policy is not the sole property of the NPP.

He said: “This idea is not a Nana Addo or an NPP idea. It is an idea that is enshrined in the constitution.”

According to him, if the President has decided to roll out the free SHS policy, “I don't think it is anything strange” because it is wrong to “appropriate a national policy as an individual policy.”

Mr. Monah noted that the policy is captured in the nation's constitution therefore, “it should not be subjected to the kind of partisan politics that we are doing.”

He urged Ghanaians to see it as a policy which will benefit the whole nation and should create a sense of excitement.”
