Mamponteng (Ash), March 31, GNA - The Kwabre District Assembly (KDA) has embarked on an Expanded Sanitary Programme to manage solid waste in the district particularly in the rapidly growing urban areas. Alhaji Ahmed Akwasi Yeboah, Kwabre District Chief Executive (DCE) who announced this said the assembly had already cleared solid waste at Atimatim, Ahwiaa and Afrancho.
Addressing the first ordinary session of the Assembly at Mamponteng on Monday, the DCE said, provision had also been made for the construction of a 12 unit improved toilet facility at Abira. He indicated that the Executive Committee of the Assembly had approved 23 on-going and new projects under recommendations from the Economic Development and Finance and Administration Sub-committees to be implemented this year.
Alhaji Yeboah said the projects had been fairly distributed geographically within the district and that a provisional vote of 1.4 billion cedis had been set aside for their implementation. He told the meeting that the assembly was able to exceed its revenue target of 998.9 million cedis for 2003 by 1.1 billion cedis representing 100.8 percent and suggested to the house to direct the Finance and Administration sub-committee to come out with incentive package to motivate the revenue collectors.
The DCE announced that the assembly had decided to construct a hospital theatre and provide theatre equipment at Asonomaso, nurses' quarters at Aboabogya and Antoa. He said necessary budgetary allocation had been made this year to rehabilitate feeder roads to improve upon the road network in the district adding that the assembly had also decided to construct drains at Bamang and Ankaase.
Alhaji Yeboah commended the various community watch committees for the effective and efficient manner they were helping the police to combat crime and stressed the need to assist them with logistical support so that the voluntary spirit would be sustained to rid the district of criminals. He urged the assembly members to collaborate the efforts of the Community-Base Organisation to educate the public on the dreadful HIV/AIDS pandemic in the district and device new ways of combating it.
