The Honourable Minister, For Local Government And Rural Development (Honourable Akwasi Oppong – Ofosu);Honourable (Dr) Samuel Sarpong, Central Regional Minister; Regional Heads Of Security; The Director, Regional Co-Ordinating Council; Nananom; The Press; Ladies And Gentlemen!
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the Central Regional House of Chiefs especially our Local Government Minister, Honourable Akwasi Oppong-Ofosu for his maiden visit to the House. Nananom are very pleased and honoured to have you here today.
As we are all aware, the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development seeks to promote, the establishment and development of a vibrant and well resourced decentralized system of government for the people of Ghana to ensure good governance and balanced rural based development.
Honourable Minister, these objectives of your Ministry can be achieved fully, if the local government and its departments which include the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies liaise with the chieftaincy institution that is the Regional House of Chiefs and its Traditional Councils, within the Metropolitan, Municipalities & Districts.
Honourable Minister, it is an acceptable fact that Chieftaincy is the bed rock of Local Governance, and there could not be sustainable local governance without Nananom.
Nananom are so much concern about how policies are being disseminated to the grassroots and this could not be done without Nananom.
Honourable Minister it is an acceptable fact that decentralization is being championed by your ministry and it also the strongest arm of Government. You cannot function well without the proper patronage of the Regional Minister, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives who are already on the ground.
My passionate appeal to them is to embrace the decentralization as their baby and properly disseminate the policies to the grassroots over and over so that masses will have the understanding for its sustainability. We therefore pledge our support to the Local Government Ministry and its departments to maintain and promote peace and good governance at the grass root level as we have been doing since this country came into being. The doors of Nananom in the Region are opened always to you for our advice and assistance.
Once again I'm honoured to inform this august House, especially our Honourable Minister For Local Government and Rural Development about the ongoing expansion project being carried out in the House. Indeed the House is feverishly looking into other possibilities that will greatly supplement our finances and make economic situation better in order to support the project which include the expansion of the existing structure into a storey building and the construction of an ultra modern electronic library for Nananom and staff.
Honourable Minister, this project if completed will create more rooms for Judicial Sittings and Offices to boost administrative work. The library will serve as a resource centre for Research Studies by Nananom and the general public as well.
Honourable Minister, for your first time visit to this region and for the fact that we want you to make your mark to Nananom, we will appeal to your office to assist the House in any kind of support in respect of the Regional Project initiated by the House.
In conclusion, I welcome you all to the House and wish our Honourable Minister, Honourable Akwasi Oppong-Ofosu a fruitful visit to the Region.
