150 members of the Maritime and Dockworkers Union (MDU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) are calling for a revolution in the Union.

Instead of electing representatives to the delegate's conference of the Union to elect national officers, the members are calling for direct elections in which every member will have a vote. In a letter to the General-Secretary of the Union, Mr. Kwasi Adu Amankwa, the members proposed that Akosombo, Tema, Accra and Takoradi should be constituted into constituencies or polling stations for the elections.

They also suggested that the Registrar of Trade Unions (The Chief Labour Officer) should be notified of this new arrangement so as to enable him take appropriate measures.

The 150 members from Tema and Takoradi also asked the General-Secretary to “summon an Extra-ordinary Delegates Conference to precede the forth coming Regular Delegates Conference to take a decision on the new proposal for the election of national leaders.
