Kumasi, March 23, GNA - An 18-year-old Malian, who attempted registering twice, was arrested on Friday and handed over to the Kumasi police.

Abubakar Ibrahim was said to have attempted to register at another registration centre at Oforikrom despite the fact that he had already registered the previous day.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the incident on Tuesday, Mr Kofi Kyei, the Returning Officer for the Oforikrom electoral area, said last Thursday, the culprit registered at the Akosuakrom registration centre at Anloga in Kumasi.

He said on Friday, Abubakar attempted to register again at the Mercy Baptist Church registration centre after he had covered his thumb with a plaster.

Mr Kyei said, however, that the registration officer, Mr Rockson Addai, became suspicion and challenged Abubakar to remove the plaster on his thumb for inspection, assuring him that if it was found out that he had a sore on the thumb as he claimed, he would buy him a new plaster.

He said when the plaster was forcibly removed, the registration officials found out that there was indelible ink on the thumb indicating that he (Abubakar) had already registered and was quickly handed over to the police.

When Chief Superintendent Paul Frimpong, the District Police Commander, was contacted, he confirmed the story and said the police were preparing to send the culprit to court.
