THE CATHOLIC Church in Koforidua has won the admiration of the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Daasebre Prof(Emeritus) Oti Boateng, for what he said is their ability to foster a harmonious relationship between themselves and the traditional area.

This was contained in his goodwill message to the church during their centenary celebration in Koforidua pointing out that the decision of his ancestors to donate land for the establishment and expansion of the Roman Catholic Church a 100 years ago had never been in vain.

He said that he and his people would never forget the contribution of the Catholic Church in the provision of quality education and health care delivery.

He recalled that since the carving of the Koforidua diocese out of the Accra Diocese in 1992, the church had made giant strides in its evangelization crusade.

The Omanhene noted that the St George Catholic Church  in Koforidua was at the apex of a great Diocese which proudly boasts of 31 parishes , 70 priests made up of 59 Ghanaians and 11 expatriates and a remarkable population of 221,743 which exceeds the population of any single district in the region.

The diocese, he went on, has 193 kindergartens, 252 primary schools, 188 junior high schools, 10 senior high schools, two technical schools, one teacher training school and a nurse training school.

He paid glowing tribute to the first Bishop of the diocese now Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle for his pioneering role recalling the bond of friendship between the two of them that had lasted till today.
