Assam: Two Police Personnel Killed In Militant Attack

Guwahati, September 26 : Two police personnel were killed in an ambush by anti talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Assam on Thursday, officials said.

The incident took place at Multijhara area, bordering area of Dhubi and Kokrajhar district, where NDFB militants killed two police personnel.

According to reports, a seven member group of the outfit attacked to an Assam police group, who travelled in a Tata Sumo vehicle in the remote area.

'When our team reached the remote village, the militant group started fire targeting to our vehicle with automatic rifles. We have not been thinking about the attack and not find out the hole for exchange bullets,' a police official said.

In the militants attack, two police personnel killed on spot and other five were managed to flee from the area by unhurt.

The deceased police personnel were identified as Sub Inspector Narayan Chandra Barman and constable cum driver of the vehicle Madan Rai.

Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and launched operation against the militants.

In other hand, the outfit group had demanded Rs 20 crore from the NHPC to free the abducted General Manager Anil Kumar Agarwala.

'The outfit group had sent an email to NHPC authority and demanded the ransom,' Assam Police ADGP AP Raut said.

The NHPC General Manager was abducted by NDFB militants at gunpoint from Baramile area in Sonitpur district, bordering area of Assam-Arunachel Pradesh on September 21 evening.

Police have arrested five people including the driver of the abducted NHPC official so far.
