There are 12 senior high and technical schools in the Obuasi municipality and its environs which produce over 12,000 graduates every year.

Out of the 12,000 graduates, over 70 per cent qualify for university and other tertiary institutions and these successful students are unable to further their education due to lack of space.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Ofori Agymang Boadi, delivering his first sessional address to the members of the assembly said that the first phase of the project would comprise the building of an administration block and a 12-unit lecture hall.

He said the outstanding performances of students in the area and their inability to further their education to the university level due to lack of space was a worry to all. He indicated that the success the municipality had been chalking, in the past four years had led to a  higher number of people waiting to pursue university education in the Obuasi municipality.

He mentioned that the assembly was collaborating with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to set up a campus at Obuasi to run courses related to the extractive industries since Obuasi was a mining community.

According to him, the setting up of the campus and introduction of the courses would help in developing the human resource requirement for the mining and other related industries in Obuasi.

Touching on other areas, the MCE said that the assembly was embarking on a project, dubbed 'Green Obuasi project', which would help beautify the town by planting trees and flowers along the streets.

To boost security to make life comfortable for all, he said the assembly would create  a security fund to assist the police and other security agencies in the municipality.

He added that a lot of structures had been put in place to increase revenue mobilisation and improve health and sanitation.

Mr Agyemang Boadi also tasked contractors of the assembly to always use quality materials for their projects.
