Ghana Peace Prize Scheme instituted by AFCOPB

Accra, Sept. 21, 2013/: The African Centre for Peace Building-AFCOPB has instituted a peace prize to honour and celebrate individuals and organizations that have contributed and continue to promote peace, democracy and development in the Ghana.

The Ghana Peace Prize-GPP is a an award scheme instituted by The African Centre for Peace Building to honour and celebrate personalities and institutions that have contributed tremendously to the development of Peace and Democracy in Ghana.

At a short ceremony to adopt a logo of the maiden edition of the Ghana Peace Prize and to also mark the UN Peace Day, the Executive Director, Korsi Senyo said 'the Ghana Peace Prize is an honorary award scheme which seeks to celebrate the successes Ghana has chalked to create a niche for its self in the areas of Peace, Democracy, Political Stability and Economic Development'.

'There were a lot of individuals and organizations that stood firm to do the right thing that has taken Ghana to this level and indeed, they need to be honoured as heros and celebrated'.-he added

In briefing the media the Programmes Director, Millicent Atana indicated that, 'what triggered the Ghana Peace Prize is the recent demonstration of maturity and respect for rule of law by political parties, parties in the just ended election petition election coupled with the sustenance of our democracy since our return to constitutional rule in 1992″.

The African Centre for Peace Building is a Ghana based peace-building organization which aims to build peace in Ghana and Africa through conflict prevention, youth development, peace education, promotion of human rights, health and poverty reduction. AFCOPB also seeks to champion public awareness that would enable people to make peaceful and healthy decisions for themselves, their families, nations and the continent. The organization since its establishment in 2009 has implemented several projects including the 1st West Africa Microfinance Conference, Africa Peace Festival, Africa Peace Awards, Youth Leadership Training, Free and Fair Project, Rural Peace Project, Community Peace Education among others.

'We are therefore appealing to corporate bodies, the media, NGOs, civil society, development agencies, and individuals for partnership, sponsorship, donations and any other forms of support towards the realization of this dream.'- Korsi Senyo
