Baaba Hudson chairs Lions Region 34

Miss Kate Baaba Hudson is the new Chairperson for Region 34 of District 403-A2 of Lions Clubs International (LCI).

Lion Hudson took over from Lion (Mrs) Gladys Mansa Feddy Akyea at a ceremony organised at the senior staff club house at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) last weekend.

As Regional Chairperson, Lion Hudson is responsible for the Lions clubs in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra-Leone. Ghana is made up of 13 Lions clubs spread through Tema, Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast, while Liberia has four and Sierra Leone one.

The region is divided into three zones and each zone is headed by a zone chairman, while each club is led by a club president, who is supported by other executives to run the club.

Lion Hudson, who is the Business and Foreign Page Editor of the Daily Graphic, is the immediate past Distict Protocol Officer  (IPDPO) of the district. She intends to focus her attention on leadership development and to give real meaning to service to the community and the less priviledged in society, during her tenure.

She also seeks to follow the theme of the International President of LCI, Lion Barry J. Palmer, which is 'Follow Your Dream', which demands that Lions live up to their responsibility, reach out to the community and recruit new members and also recognise hard work.

Miss Hudson will work closely with other officers of the district, as well as women of the various clubs in the region,  to help improve Lionism in the region in particular, and the district and international in general.

The officers include Lion Kwadwo Kissiedu Kwapong as Zone Chairman for 341, Lion Kodua Edjekumhene, as Zone Chairman for 342, Lion Nana Esi Parry as Co-ordinator for Lions 'Sight First', Lion Charles Ninsing as Deputy District Global Membership Team Co-ordinator, Lion Augusta Nkansah Baah, as Deputy Global Leadership Team Coordinator and Lion Francis Kumatia, as Deputy District Leo.

At the handover ceremony, she asked the entire membership of Lions Clubs in Ghana to support her towards building and improving a unique image and identity for Lions Clubs in Ghana and the district as a whole.

Lion Hudson is a past president, past secretary, past membership director, past tail twister and past bulletin editor of the Tema Lions Club, among others. She has attended several district and international conventions of Lions clubs and is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow (PMJF) of LCI.

Miss Hudson is a product of Tema Secondary School, Ghana Institute of Journalism, Regional Maritime Academy (now Regional Maritime University), School of Communication Studies and the University of Ghana Business School.

Lion Gladys Akyea presented documents on the region to Miss Hudson and pledged her continuous support to her and the entire region and district.

Mrs Akyea mentioned some of the projects undertaken during her tenure as the hearing assessment centre for the Cape Coast School for the Deaf, and said several eye-screening exercises were also undertaken, while textbooks and other learning materials were donated to selected schools.
