Grenade Explosion In Assam Police Station As Six Persons Injured

Guwahati, August 22 : A powerful grenade explosion rocked Assam's Darrang district on Thursday evening, where six people including two journalists and three police personnel were injured.

Paresh Barua alias Paresh Asom led United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent) had triggered the explosion at Mangoldoi Sadar police station around 6-35 pm on Thursday.

'A militant group had hurled the grenade targeting to police personnel at the police station,' Assam police IGP (Law and Order) SN Singh said.

'The grenade exploded inside the police station during the daily police parade, where six people were injured,' the Assam police official said.

The injured persons were identified as police personnel Pabitra Deka, Gauri Sarma, Prabodh Nath, journalist duo Gagn Saharia, Dulal Deka and a minor girl.

The injured persons were admitted at Mangoldoi civil hospital.

Top police officials had rushed to the blast site and launched operation against the militants.

Meanwhile, ULFA(Independent) had took responsible of the explosion.

The outfit group had triggered four explosions at North Lakhimpur, Bakuliaghat of Karbi Anglong district and Guwahati city earlier this month, where one people killed and 15 others injured.
