Tullow Ghana donates solar lamps to students

Sekondi (W/R), Aug. 17, GNA-Tullow Ghana Limited, has donated 80 solar lamps to students of Methodist Senior High School (MEHSEC) in Sekondi.

 
The donation forms part of the social corporate responsibility of the company to better the living standard of communities within the oil-find enclave at the Jubilee field.

 
Mr Samuel Kwakye Marfo, Liaison officer of the company donated the lamps at MEHSEC on Friday.

 
He said the school was chosen because it is one of the best schools in the Western Region, where studies are interrupted during power outages.

 
Mr Marfo said 18 basic schools at Essikado near Sekondi had also benefitted from the solar lamps.

 
He said the company had teamed up with the British Council to award scholarships to students to study abroad after their first degree and return to Ghana with their expertise.

 
Among the interventions made by the company is the establishment of a school at Takoradi Polytechnic with lecturers from the United Kingdom to train students in oil exploration.

 
Academic work starts in September.
 
The company had also rehabilitated the accident ward at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital.

 
Mr Paul K. Awortwe, Headmaster of MEHSEC thanked Tullow Ghana for the gesture as well as its investment in education.

 
He appealed to the company to assist the school with a bus to convey students to and from its Kansaworodo campus.

 
The Takoradi Metropolitan Director of Education, Nana Adjei Kofi Imbea in a speech read on his behalf, congratulated the school for its sense of hard work and dedication and being one of the best schools in the area.
