The Rotary Club of Tema Meridian has refurbished the Oninku Drive One Junior High School Library at Community One in Tema at the cost of GH¢12,850.

The project, co-financed by Hotel Joecarl at Tema Community Six, is part of the club's social commitment to society.

Speaking at the hand-over ceremony at the school, Mrs Carlotta Emefa Ayayee, immediate past president of the club, said a school library was a powerful force in the lives of schoolchildren, as well as source of knowledge to young minds.

Mrs Ayayee commended Mrs Sally Tsibu-Mensah, a former head teacher of the school, for the request and the offer of a classroom for the project.

She was optimistic that the facility would enhance teaching and learning at the school, and assured the authorities that the Rotary Club of Tema Meridian would supply books to the library regularly.

Mr Theo Akofio Sowah, Assistant Governor of Rotary International District 9100, said pupils' interest in reading would have a positive impact on their academic performance and behaviour.

The Head teacher of Oninku Drive One JHS, Mr Francis Boadu, thanked the club and Hotel Joecarl for the gesture.

He gave the assurance that library periods would be incorporated into the school's timetable to enable the pupils to make judicious use of their leisure hours.
