Banda-Ahenkro (B/A), Jan. 26, GNA- The Banda-Ahenkro Youth Association in the Brong-Ahafo region has lauded the government for creating the new Tain District.

The association noted that the President, by creating the new district, kept faith with the people and that they would rally behind the government.

This was at the end of a two-day meeting organised by the youth association and attended by the elders of the Banda-Ahenkro traditional area on Saturday.

Members of the association noted that the creation of the district would be supported with resources of the area to facilitate its rapid development.

The meeting also afforded the people the opportunity to appraise the development of the area as well as make projections for this year. On development projects, they agreed to mechanise their water supply system, construct sheds at a new market site and lobby for the establishment of financial institutions in the area to boost economic activities.

Funding of these projects would be done through levies of 10,000 cedis per resident and 15,000 cedis per non-resident citizen.

The youth association said since education constituted a major agent for change and development, they would sensitise parents on the need to invest in their children's education, especially the girl-child. The association also urged the people to register in their numbers when the registration exercise starts in March, this year.

Mr Christopher Dapaa, Co-ordinating Director of Resource Link Foundation, an NGO and the chief spokesman for the association, said his organisation would liaise with other NGOs to accelerate the development of the new district.

He identified the Bui hydroelectric project and the vast hectares of fertile lands as some of the untapped resources of the district and urged entrepreneurs to invest in the area.

Okokyeredom Kwadwo Sito I, Paramount Chief of the Banda traditional area, appealed to the people in the new district to bury their differences over the citing of the district capital at Nsawkaw and forge ahead in the spirit of unity to ensure development of the district.
