Collapse Of NDC Chapters Abroad: Hon Kofi Attor Stands Accused
05.08.2013 LISTEN

Members of the ruling party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) overseas have started holding strategic talks ahead of the supreme court ruling, and are highlighting some of the flaws the party's head-quarters in Accra is exhibiting towards its overseas chapters.

A communique, released by the NDC Amsterdam Branch, indicated that Hon. Kofi Attor who was made responsible for NDC diasporian affairs under the Mills Administration and who still holds that portfolio to this day, has fundamentally failed in energizing , collating and collaborating the efforts of the party's chapters overseas to benefit the NDC party and the country as a whole.

The NDC Chapters that shared this notion, included the NDC USA BRANCH, NDC ITALY, NDC UK , NDC FRANCE, NDC SPAIN, NDC NORWAY and NDC GERMANY. All these chapters/branches have reached out to Hon Kofi Attor on both individual and professional/party level, to try and see how they can help build and maintain a close relationship between the overseas branches and the NDC Headquarters, but have concluded that Hon Kofi Attor is indeed either not capable in handling the role vested in him or simply doesn't have that skills sets required to enhance relationship building between the chapters/branches and the NDC Headquarters.

The communique further went on to highlight the fact that the failure to perform his (Kofi Attor) duties as empowered to him, also makes Ghana's Foreign Missions in these countries seem in- effective, because there are no structures in place that can highlight proper updates to processes/procedures etc to Ghanaians living in the said countries. Various newspapers and media outlets have published reports/articles expressing dissatisfaction of Embassy /Consulate staff in many of these countries, and one would wonder if our Honorable Foreign Minister Madam Hannah Tetteh is being cast under the same shadow.

Ghanaians overseas, historically, have showed great interest in events ongoing in the motherland, not to mention the immense economical contributions made by Ghanaians overseas towards the development of our beloved country Ghana. Therefore, it becomes imperative for any ruling party in government in Ghana to strategically pay attention to how Ghanaians overseas can be held accountable to their collective contribution towards our development as a nation.

There is a whole lot of acquired skill sets by Ghanaians living in the diaspora that is going to waste due to lack of the proper channels /infrastructure that can be the impetus / vehicle of change towards the better Ghana agenda.

Mr Tony Abban Brown, Interim Public Relations Officer of the NDC Amsterdam Branch , said members of the NDC party at branch level all the way to National level, should show commitments towards to nation building, and refrain from the by-partisan rantings which only goes to delay as well as destroy development and credibility.

His remarks also cemented what the groups interim chairperson Mr Dodoo''s stated , that , should the office or responsibility given to Kofi Attor be really that significant to the party head-quarters, then the party leadership should be able to give its chapters a snap-shot of the mandate given to Kofi Attor highlighting what his challenges has been over the years to explain why he has been very in-effective in exercising his duties for the greater benefit of the Nation as a whole.

With 2016 on the Radar, and the pending decision of the Supreme Court, Mr. Dodoo also stated that NDC Headquarters should start paying attention to ways the party can bridge its troubled waters with NDC branches overseas so that Ghanaians can benefit from its sons and daughters outside the country as well as continue to believe in the vision the party has for the nation. Accountability is key is the message.

Recommendations also were made to acknowledge the great work done by Ghanaian media houses outside of Ghana, i.e. Ghanaian Radio/TV stations that operate in countries like the Netherlands, Germany. UK, USA etc to mention a few, who are contributing greatly to the keep ghanaians overseas abreast with events in the motherland and promoting our culture and heritage to the outside world. Special recognition was given to SPIRIT FM run by Mr Quayson Kay for such contributions.

Long live Ghana, and God bless all Ghanaians.

Also Present at the time of going to the press were Mr. Fred Morgan, and Nana Takyi-Blankson (Interim Executives).
