A 5-month-old baby has been abandoned at Kakpayili a suburb in Tamale in the Northern Region, wrapped in a white cloth. No resident has been able to identify the child.
Salima Abudul Rahaman, who was on her way to attend to nature's call, saw the wrapped baby lying face down. She then raised an alarm attracting people from the neighborhood to the scene.
Radio Justice's Martina Bugri reports that residents of Kakpayili suspect the baby was dumped by someone from a distant town.
The case has been reported to the police, and the child has been sent to the hospital.
The child has been detained in the hospital for further examinations. According to physicians at the hospital, the 5-month-old baby's temperature is below normal levels.
Sylvester Kuyambaya, Physician Assistant at the West Hospital, where the child was sent, said even though she is breathing normally, her pupils are not reacting to light.
The baby has been placed on infusion for further observation.
