Israel Marks National Science Day In The Most Unlikely Venues

Ghana, Accra, 19th June 2013: The State of Israel yesterday marked its National Science Day with lectures by professors in the most unlikely places - individual homes in Jerusalem - on how Israel has been developed with science and technology since independence. Another lecture was held at the Einstein Pub in Israel because the day also coincided with the birthday of the German-born theoretical physicist, Albert Einstein.

Israel currently ranks fourth in the world in scientific activity as measured by the number of scientific publications per million citizens. Israel's percentage of the total number of scientific articles published worldwide is almost 10 times higher than its percentage of the world's population. Israel boasts of the highest number of scientists, technicians, and engineers per capita in the world with 140 scientists, technicians, and engineers per 10,000 employees.

Israeli scientists have contributed to the advancement of agriculture, computer sciences, electronics, genetics, health care, solar energy and various fields of engineering. Israel is home to major players in the high tech industry and has one of the world's most technologically-literate populations.
