Apam (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA- The European Union Micro Project (EUMP), has allocated 1.093 billion cedis for implementation of 11 projects in Gomoa District.
The assembly and the beneficiary communities have also provided 130 million cedis and 183 million respectively as counterpart funding for the projects.
Miss Joyce Aidoo, the District Chief Executive who announced this at the second ordinary session of the Assembly at Apam said the HIPC Fund has also released 1.1 billion cedis for seven projects and procurement of refuse containers and health equipment. The fund has also provided 20 million cedis for the purchase of high-tension electric poles for Gomoa Akwamu in the Central Region. Miss Aidoo said Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs has also provided 686 million cedis for disbursement to some women groups, whilst the Senior Minister's Ministry had also provided 235 million cedis for the same purpose.
The Village Infrastructure Project (VIP) and the Assembly provided 2.596 billion cedis for eight projects in the district.
She said the GETFund and the Social Investment Fund (SIF) provided some interventions for infrastructure developments in the district. Miss Aidoo urged members of the assembly to encourage their communities to play active role in the provision of counterpart funding in terms of labour, sand and stones since the issue was posing problems to execution of projects of donor agencies.
The DCE said the District Assembly Common Fund Administrator has allocated 5.730 billion cedis to the district as its share of the common fund and said four billion cedis of the amount had already been received.
Mr Frank Essel Cobbah, the Presiding Member expressed concern about the use of tainted glasses by private car owners and called on the law enforcing agents to check it. He thanked members of the assembly for their co-operation and wished them well in the coming year.
