Saltpond Lower Town (C/R), Dec. 31, GNA - The Saltpond Lower Town (Nankesedo) Unit Committee led by the Assemblywoman for the area, Miss Abena Konadu, has embarked on the construction of a drainage system estimated at about 20 million cedis.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Miss Konadu said the area was prone to flooding, which bred mosquitoes leading to malaria. She said three million cedis provided by the Mfantseman District Assembly had already been spent on the project, adding that, the Unit committee would organise a fund raising harvest next year Easter in aid of the project.
The assemblywoman appealed to citizens of the town and non-government organizations for support.
Mr Kobena Yankson, Unit Committee Chairman, said the committee had planned to provide toilet facilities to augment the only two serving the population of over 2,500 people in the area.
Mr Issah Kassim, a member of the committee commended the people for their communal spirit and urged them to keep it up.
