Mme Ravalomanana Warns Of The Threat To Our Natural Environment

On the eve of World Oceans Day, Presidential Candidate Lalao Ravalomanana has spoken today of the importance of protecting Madagascar's unique

natural environment and preventing further irreversible destruction to the island's land and seas.

'Madagascar has an unmatched natural beauty, on both the land and in the oceans surrounding our island with our world famous Tsingy mountains, our abundance of unique island animals, plants and rich sealife.

They are the lifeblood of our country; the fish in the oceans feed us, and the forests and plant life protect us. Visitors from all over the world flock to Madagascar each year to dive in our oceans and enjoy our beautiful beaches and rainforests, providing jobs and valuable income for many Malagasy people.

But our natural environment is under threat. Over the last few years we have seen major destruction of our rainforests through the issuing of illegal logging permits and increased pollution of our ocean under the current government.

This has to stop now before it is too late. It is time for all of us to take responsibility for conserving and protecting Madagascar's rich natural habitat before it is gone forever.

As candidate for the Mouvance I pledge that a government headed by me will make the environment a key priority. We will do everything we can to repair the damage that has been done to our country in the last four years.

The Mouvance has come together to show what can be achieved by working in unity, and when the elections comes, we must unite as one nation to save our country's precious environment. '
