The Managing Director of Chocho Industries, manufacturers of herbal medicine at Suhum in the Eastern Region, Alhaji Mustapha Boateng has appealed to striking government and hospital pharmacists to reconsider their strike action and go back to work.
He said it was important and complementary for the pharmacists to go back to work in the interest of Ghanaians while the leadership of Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) dialogued with the government over their grievances in terms of conditions of service.
'By the grace of God, our striking doctors have listened to the cries of Ghanaians and returned to work to offer that essential service to Ghanaians while their leadership continues to dialogue with government,' he said
Alhaji Boateng made the appeal in an interview after workers of his companies had voluntarily donated blood to the Suhum Government Hospital.
Some youth groups at Suhum also participated in the blood donation exercise which Chocho Industries fully funded.
He said as a herbalist, he knew the importance of medicine in the administration of illnesses and that without the work of the pharmacists, doctors and nurses, work would not be completed.
'As a herbalist and 'medicine' person, I really appreciate the work of a pharmacist and therefore will like to add my voice to the call for our public pharmacists to go back to work and complement the work of doctors,' he said stressing that health delivery in the country will suffer if pharmacists continue to stay away from work.
He said even though he was a traditional herbalists, he recognised the importance of orthodox medicine and that health delivery in the country would suffer if pharmacists continue to stay away from work.
'We are pleading with the pharmacists to go back to work and complement the work of our doctors'.
He however commended the doctors for calling off their strike action on humantarian grounds after many prominent Ghanaians had made passionate appeals for them return to work.
