As the controversy and litigation over who really owns the Kantamanto Market rage on, with traders claiming rightful ownership, another case is raising its ugly head which when not dealt with urgently, can lead to serious disputes in the future.

Signals picked up by your authoritative ModernGhana indicate that some ringleaders of the Ghana Railways Development Authority Workers Union are having a field day in their quest to amass wealth through various corrupt means and schemes by selling government lands.

Incontrovertible facts available to ModernGhana have revealed that these nation wreckers have sold a portion of land at the main Accra Railways Station to a developer through the backdoor without going through any process of land acquisition.

Sources close to the Railway Authority revealed that these unscrupulous characters sold the land to a company named Linfao Acquah Company Limited for the construction of a 20-seater water-closet toilet facility for commercial purposes.

ModernGhana learnt that the facility, which is almost completed, is likely to be demolished considering the illegal means the land was acquired.

Sleuth checks conducted also showed that other properties belonging to the Railways Authority have been sold out in the same corrupt manner.

'We have realized some things went wrong in the sale of the land so, it is likely the facility, though completed, would be razed down. It was even acquired without the due consent of the authority's management,' one of the top officials at the Ghana Railways Development Authority, who pleaded anonymity, told ModernGhana.

The source further hinted that a court order had been secured to restrain the developer to stop working on the land but the developer has defied the court order hence making the case of demolishing the structure justifiable.

'The land in question is a government property so no one has any authority to sell the land except government and you don't just buy a land for just one day like that; so this is where we are suspecting some fishy underhand dealings because we want to avoid cases similar to the Kantamanto market matters because government lands are indeed government lands,' the source then emphasized.

The reliable source also revealed that the Ghana Railways Authority has launched full-scale internal checks into the matter and whoever is found culpable would face full rigours of the law.

Meanwhile one of the leaders of the workers union, whose name was only given as Mr. Sam, when contacted confirmed the case but refused to comment since he claimed the case was before a court of law.

'The case is in court, so I am not sure I can make any further comment,' Mr. Sam stressed.
