A large delegation of high level managers from 30 French companies in various strategic sectors (infrastructural industries, banking sector, high technologies industries, telecommunications, oil related equipment, construction and public works) was in a two-day visit in Ghana to explore business opportunities.
The investors, leading members of the Association of French companies Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF), called on the President John Mahama.
The President asked them to focus more on the areas of energy production, agro-processing and infrastructure development.
He also informed the delegation that the government is focusing on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements for the infrastructure development. 'We believe we can collaborate with MEDEF since it has a lot of experience in PPP' he said.
The French business community sees Ghana as a major partner in Africa, not only for its economic potential weight, but also thanks to its political stability and ease of doing business that attract Foreign Direct Investment. The leader of the delegation and Chairman of MEDEF International for Africa, Patrick Lucas, said that France would increase her trade and investment in the country.
'French companies are convinced of Ghana's economic potential and investment opportunities. 60 French companies are established in Ghana and the trend of new comers is increasing smoothly as the country offers a good environment for international investors and great outlooks where French companies have an international know-how'.
As part of the visit, the delegation had other meetings with the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Trade and Industry, and held discussions with various business groups such as the Association of Ghana Industries and Ghana Investment Promotion Center.
On Wednesday May 29th, MEDEF International will have another opportunity to meet President John Mahama, during the official visit of the President to France.
