Workshop for peer educators on HIV/AIDS ends at Asikuma

Akim Oda (E/R), May 21, GNA - Children have been advised to avoid immoral acts to help protect them from unwanted pregnancies and concentrate on their studies to enable them to pass their examinations.

Mr Richard Dela Dankey, Deputy Co-ordinating Director of Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, gave the advice at a two-day workshop for pupils from 20 private schools who are peer educators on HIV/AIDS.

The workshop, organised by the District Assembly in conjunction with Humanitarian Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, and sponsored by the Ghana AIDS Commission, was part of efforts to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.

Mr Dankey advised the participants to avoid indulging in sex and other social vices that would ruin their future.

He appealed to the pupils to take the necessary precautionary measures against drug abuse, alcohol intake and watching pornographic materials.

The participants were drawn from 10 basic schools and were taken through basic facts about HIV/AIDS and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases, the Role of a Peer Educator, and how to document and give feedback on peers.
