Accra, May 20, GNA - The Fourth Joint Development Partners' Review and Support Mission, to ensure the smooth implementation of the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), opened in Accra on Monday.
The GIFMIS is a project being funded by four development partners, namely the World Bank, Department for Foreign and International Development, European Union and Danish International Development Assistance.
Mr Seth Terkper, Minister of Finance, said during the opening session of the Mission, that the project was funded for four years, from 2009 to 2013.
Mr Terkper said one of the objectives of GIFMIS was to run comprehensive and effective use of donor funds, monies allocated and generated by institutions to achieve the country's economic growth.
He said GIFMIS was involved in the use of computerised system in managing public funds and would serve as a government's official system to be used in budget preparation, accounting, and disbursement of funds, among other things.
Mr Terkper said there was the need to review operational elements of Ministries, Departments and Agencies to enhance the operations of the system.
GIFMIS is part of the Public Finance Management Reform aimed at improving resource mobilisation, allocation and expenditure management in Ghana.
The meeting, therefore, offers the platform for the development partners to interact with the GIFMIS team and other stakeholders to assess the progress of work on the project and provide technical support.
The Mission is expected to end its deliberations on May 30, 2013.
