JADA Expresses Willingness To Reconstruct Drobo Market
Research has established that the major problem facing traders operating within the Drobo market is congestion and disjointed allocation of store and stalls.
This was disclosed by a consultant working under Centre of Posterity Interest Organization (COPIO) Mr. John Yaw Akparep) at a day's sensitization meeting organized at Drobo for members of Drobo Market Women Association (DROWA). The meeting was funded by BUSAC with support from USAID, DANIDA and European Union (EU).
Speaking on the theme 'advocating for modern market infrastructure to enhance businesses in the Jaman South District', the consultant lamented that the current state of the market has over the years contributed immensely towards low patronage of the market.
According to him, the contribution of commercial activities of traders cannot be underestimated hence the need for the traders currently operating within the market to rally solidly behind any activity that has the ability to help redesign the market into a modern one.
Addressing over 247 members of DROMWA, the consultant stated emphatically failure to address the existing challenge facing the market will definitely make it more difficult for traders plying their trade within the thatched market structure to achieve the expected results.
He reminded the traders to ponder over the current fire disasters that have recently affected some recognized market centres in the country and support the reconstruction course. He expressed optimism that considering the fruitful talks with major stakeholders the reconstruction will never be a mirage.
He gave out assurance that there will not be any problem concerning allocation of the market following the effectiveness of the reconstruction, adding that plans are far afoot for the intervention of legal team to help in the documentation to cover the current occupants of the market.
This, the consultant explained, is to avoid any form of neglect after completion of the market.
On her part, Madam Ruth Ansu, chairperson for the occasion reaffirmed that the decision to reconstruct the market was hatched by the Jaman South District Assembly (JSDA) about two years, however, a number of traders in the market were reluctant to move in order for the reconstruction works to commence. She commended BUSAC for funding the sensitization meeting.
In an open forum, the members pledged their support towards any move aim at helping to reconstruct the market.
