Do not embark on indiscriminate registration of herbalists-Gbedemah
Agona Swedru, May 16, GNA - Torgbui G. K .K Gbedemah II, Life Patron of the Ghana Psychic and Traditional Healers Association (GPTHA) has urged the Ghana Traditional Herbal Medicine Council to consult the Association for recommendation before issuing new licenses.
He said this would help eliminate quacks, who would be attempting to register and operate as herbalists.
Speaking to the Press at Agona Swedru, Torgbui Gbedemah said allowing people to register directly with the council without recommendation by the association would enable unqualified people to infiltrate the traditional herbal Medicine industry in the country.
He said the Association with over one million members nationwide, needs to scrutinize them to pave way for quality herbal medicine practice as expected by the government.
The Life Patron said the Council would be undermining herbal medicine practice if it fails to do so.
He said the GH¢270.00 License fee being charged by the Council is too expensive.
The Life Patron said the Herbal Medicine Council was established to cater for its members and not to drag it into disrepute.
Torgbui Gbedemah said the Ghana Psychic and Traditional Healers Association, established in 1960 would not do anything wrong to dent the image of herbal medicine and appealed to the Ministry of Health to come out with a comprehensive national policy that will streamline the practice of herbal medicine to improve health care delivery.
