Sunyani, May 18, GNA - Management of Moonlite FM, a Sunyani-based radio station, on Thursday organised a day's training seminar to educate some information centre managers in the Brong-Ahafo Region on basic skills in news gathering and broadcasting.

The nine participants, including two women, drawn from Afirisipakrom, Yamfo, Adrobaa, Yawhima, Subriso and Atronie were taken through Ethics, Code of Conduct, Guidelines for Local Language Broadcasting and other basic principles in news gathering.

Mr Dennis Peprah, a Senior Reporter at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and a facilitator, explained that the core journalistic principles underpinning local language broadcasting were accuracy, objectivity, fairness and comprehensiveness.

He advised the participants to endeavour to present accurate and verifiable information to the public.

Mr Peprah cautioned them against peddling falsehood and be circumspect in their reportage to promote social cohesion.

He said as media practitioners, they were regarded as role models in their localities and advised them to live above reproach and eschew alcoholism.

Mr Asamoah Mensah, a radio broadcaster and a presenter at Moonlite FM, entreated the participants to guard against sensationalism and ensure that their stories highlighted issues that would accelerate national development.

He advised them to endeavour to ensure they unearthed hidden natural resources in their localities which could be utilized for development.

Mr Mensah, who is also the Brong-Ahafo Regional President of Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association, expressed optimism that the relationship between the participants and management of Moonlite Radio would be strengthened for their mutual benefit.

He gave the assurance that management would continue to support them to upgrade and improve on their skills in news gathering and broadcasting.
