Baakoniaba (B/A), May 18, GNA - The Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, has advised Ghanaians to remain patient, tolerant as they wait for the Supreme Court's verdict on the election petition.
He cautioned supporters of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress to guard against tendencies that could spark violence and disturb national peace and security.
Rt Rev Amenu said this when he opened the 4th synod of the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Presbytery of the Church underway at Baakoniaba in the Sunyani Municipality.
The two-day synod is on the theme: 'God of life lead us to Justice, peace and dignity for growth and development'.
Rt Rev Amenu said it was important for all Ghanaians to jealously protect the prevailing peace in the country by ensuring that they allowed the national interest to override their personal and partisan interests.
He said as peace was the pre-requisite for accelerated national development, there was the need for the government to collaborate effectively with faith based institutions and traditional authorities in setting the pace for development.
Rt Rev Amenu said with such an effective collaboration, resources could be pulled together in tackling social issues such as education, health and water.
He commended government for effort made so far in addressing the energy crisis in the country.
Reverend Patrick Letsukuma, Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Presbytery Moderator, entreated Ghanaians to demonstrate a high level of patriotism and commitment in the course of their national activities.
He appealed to all to embrace the tenets of freedom and justice to help consolidate Ghana's fledgling democracy.
Rev Letsukuma advised members of the church to endeavour to put God first in all facets of their social lives and ensure that they helped the needy in society.
