Wenchi Still Has No Chief For Several Years
The three Royal Gates at Wenchi in the Brong-Ahafo region namely the Ahemfi Yefri, the Sofoase Yefri and the Nkwaduaano Yefri has emphatically said the King Makers in the Wenchi Traditional Council has not succeeded in finding a candidate to be installed as Omanhene of the area, since the stool became vacant for the past nine years after the demise of Nana Abrefa Mbore Bediatuo V.
The Royal Gates of the Wenchi Traditional Council has therefore refuted media reports that suggest that Wenchi now has a new Omanhene with a stool name Nana Anye Amoampong Tebreko I, known in private life as Prof. Albert Owusu-Sarpong.
At a press conference in Sunyani, It would be recalled that on 14th of May, 2013, the Daily Guide reported a story on page 10 captioned 'Wenchi Gets a New Chief' describing the said installation as fraudulent and illegal.
Speaking at the press conference on Thursday to set what he termed as distorted records straight, the Krontihene of Wenchi, Nana Owusu Ansah Kokroko II said the Queen mother, Nana Atoaa Sramangyedua III was repeating the mistakes the King makers made in the past in the installation of Nana Abrefa Kwadwo Nketiah as Omanhene whom she is seeking to replace with her 'own son'.
He continued that even though the 'purported Chief ' in question is a royal, he is not the choice of the Royal King Makers whom the Queen Mother has sought to sideline or ignore inspite of admonitions by all the courts involved in the Wenchi Chieftaincy Disputes.
According to him, on the 9th of this month, the Judicial Committee of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chief had given judgment on the Wenchi Chieftaincy disputes and provided a road map to be followed by all stakeholders towards installation of a new chief.
Nana Owusu Ansah said dissatisfied by the judgment, the queen mother gave a notice of appeal against the ruling, adding, 'It was a surprise to the Royals and stakeholders that on 10th of this month the queen mother was seeking to enstool a new chief all by herself, without regard to the rulings of the court.
Nana stated, 'We do not accept any impositions or fraudulent processes in making a legitimate chief as this will stifle the popular will of the people'.
He pointed out that the Royal gates are pledging their support for all legitimate means of nomination, selection and installation of a popular candidate by rightful and legitimate persons.
The Krontihene advised the people of Wenchi to eschew actions that could disturb the peace in the area and commended the people of Wenchi for their desire to use peaceful means to solve the long age chieftaincy dispute in the area.
