Obuasi, Ghana - AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) congratulated twelve employees of Golden Star Resources on their graduation from a three year training course at the company's Obuasi Engineering Training Centre. At a graduation ceremony held at the centre in Obuasi, attendees included the new graduates, representatives from AngloGold Ashanti and Golden Star Resources.
Speaking at the event, on behalf of AngloGold Ashanti, Mr Hussein Abugri, Deputy Managing Director, Obuasi Mine, congratulated the new graduates, saying, 'I believe the skills that have been acquired during your three year course will enable you to apply the latest engineering skills and techniques to the challenges and technical problems you experience in your workplaces. I am delighted that we are able to share our proven expertise in skills training and development, not only with our employees and people in the communities, but with other corporate organisations across Ghana. The presence of these engineers from Golden Star is testimony that the centre offers competitive training to novice and experienced engineers.'
A representative of the graduates assured attendees at the ceremony that they would all endeavour to use their new skills to make a difference to their workplace, and share the experience with their colleagues and the people in the communities around where they work.
'The artisan and apprenticeship programmes being run by AngloGold Ashanti's Engineering Training Centre are certified by UK City and Guilds. In addition to internal trainers, so far more than 100 middle level technical and engineering employees from other companies have graduated from the school. First-hand knowledge of these companies enables us to offer tailor made courses adapted for their specific needs and areas of expertise,' continued Mr Hussein Abugri.
Some of the companies in Ghana, in addition to Golden Star Resources, which have benefitted from AngloGold Ashanti's customised skills training at the centre in Obuasi, include: Ghacem, ABL, VRA, Voltic, Noble Gold and Liebehr.
